Campaign for Change

Published by the English Secondary Students’ Association (ESSA)

Price: £35

Tailored training also available – prices from ESSA on request
Young people feel passionately about a wide range of issues from global warming to school toilets. ESSA’s Campaign for Change training provides students age 11-19 with the skills and knowledge they need to identify campaign topics, sources of support, responsible campaigning methods and knowledge about the democratic process. The pack contains a series of practical modules, developed by students, which directly addresses the choices many young people face in connecting with campaigning. It aims to give those who use the toolkit the vital skills needed to perform tasks with confidence and success.

Modules in the pack address the following:

  • Who campaigns and why do they campaign?
  • What makes a successful campaign?
  • How to plan and run a successful campaign project
  • How to work as a team to develop and deliver a campaign
  • How to communicate with decision makers
  • How to make a positive contribution to your school and local community

It is an ideal resource pack for teaching students about participation during citizenship lessons at Key stages 3 and 4.

ESSA offers a number of courses and training options for Campaign for change, including workshops for student representatives and in-school training by ESSA trainers.
